The Branch is the part of Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics of RAS (IRE RAS), which performs supervision of the activity of the Branch accordingly to the Charter of IRE RAS. In its activity The Branch is guided by acting legislation, regulations of RAS, Charter of IRE RAS, and also by the Charter of UB IRE RAS, independently solves economical, social and organizational issues of its activity. The Branch can take part in the activity of international associations and societies within Russia and outside. Economical background of activity of UB IRE RAS is - the basic financing from the budget of IRE RAS; - the purposive financing of scientific programs, competitive projects, trends, and initiative developments from state, public, and private funds; - the financial asserts from contractual works; - the financial asserts from economical (including external economic) activity corresponding to the type of the Branch; - optional contributions from individual persons and organizations. Basic tasks of UB IRE RAS

The basic tasks of the Branch are the follows:
- fundamental research in the fields of radio engineering, radiophysics, fiber optics, optoelectronics, and informatics;
- carrying out of applied research, which helps the scientific achievements of the Branch to be introduced to the industry and the others fields of national economy.
- using of the UB IRE RAS collective experience for the development of new scientific instruments;
- improving of the methods of scientific research, rising of its scientific and economical efficiency;
- training of specialists of superior qualification.

Structure of UB IRE RAS

The basic structure subdivisions of the Branch are
- the management;
- subject research divisions;
- accounts and planning department;
- administrative-managerial staff;

The director is at the head of UB IRE RAS. Director is elected by the academic board of IRE RAS out of scientists possessing of Doctor (Candidate) of sciences degree for five years. Simultaneously, director of UB IRE RAS is the deputy chief on supervision of the Branch. Alexey Anatolyevich Shirokov is the director of the Branch since its foundation.

The following persons are take part in administration of UB IRE RAS:
- deputy chief on scientific work;
- scientific secretary of the Branch performing the functions of director's assistant in scientific and scientific-organizational activity;
- deputy chief on general and administrative-managerial tasks;
- chief accountant of the Branch.

Three subject scientific groups are formed in the Branch:

1. "Fiber-optical elements, devices, and systems"; supervisor is the director of UB IRE RAS Dr. Shirokov A.A.
2. "Wave and quantum processes"; supervisor is Dr. Shevyakhov N.S.
3. "Physics of multicomponent liquids"; supervisor is Dr. Solomin B.A.
